Toyota's luxury vehicle division Lexus has unveiled their autonomous concept car, the Lexus LS+ Concept sedan, at the ongoing Tokyo Motor Show. As the name hints, the vehicle is a variant of its flagship model LS and comes with automated driving technology.
On the front, the large grille defines the overall look of the car. Even though the manufacturer is known for its grilles, this one is a notch higher. Beneath this humongous grille is a large grille shutter that is expected to improve aerodynamics and cooling.
Expected to release in 2020, the Lexus LS+ Concept is expected to feature a couple of technologies that will assist in autonomous driving. Highway Teammate feature will enable automated driving from "entrance ramp to exit ramp". It will also handle lane changing and merging, along with maintaining a safe distance from other vehicles on the road. City version of the same is termed the Urban Teammate feature.
On-the-air updates will ensure that the software remains up to date. The Artificial Intelligence behind the technologies will also keep itself updated by memorising new roads, and change in road conditions, among other things.
