If you are wondering how did they coin that name for the scooter, we now have an official answer for you. The 'S' is there because it is, after all, a scooter. (No points for guessing that one!) The motor running underneath will be of 3 kW, hence the '3'. The battery capacity is 40 Ah, hence the '40' in the name.

Ather is all set to launch its smart scooter, the S340, during a conference to be held on February 23rd in Bengaluru.

Ather S340

The scooter is the maiden venture of the manufacturer, who is a Bangalore based technology start-up. It is expected to be a high speed electric scooter, with a powerful lithium-ion battery pack and sub-one hour charging time to reach 80% of the total charge.

The S340 is also expected to feature a dashboard in the form of a rugged display, with Linux based OS running in the background. The display will be used for easy navigation and data display. If the official expectations are to be believed, the scooter is expected to catch a top speed of 75 kilometers per hour! It is also expected to touch 60 kmph in 11 seconds. Well, these are just numbers. We need to wait for the final product before coming to any conclusions.

The battery pack will come with an integrated digital battery management system, for the efficient utilization of energy and safety of the vehicle.

The S340 is completely designed in-house and will commence commercial production in Bengaluru later this year. It will be a prime candidate for the honorable Prime Minister's Make in India initiative.

With the concept of connected cars gaining widespread traction, the S340 promises a great future. Only time will tell!
