Toyota Highlander 2017 to debut at the New York International Auto Show 2016

Japanese OEM Toyota is all set to debut the enhanced version of Highlander at the upcoming New York International Auto Show, which is scheduled to kick start on the 23rd of this month. The mid-size SUV will be receiving a series of updates in terms of equipment and technology.

The vehicle will offer room for up to 8 passengers. It will come in six model grades for the gasoline variant, viz. LE, LE Plus, XLE, SE, Limited and Limited Platinum, and will be available in either front-wheel or all-wheel drive. For the hybrid variant, there will be four model grades viz. LE, XLE, Limited and Limited Platinum, and will be available in all-wheel drive only.

The Highlander V6 models (excluding LE) will come with a Stop and Start Engine System (S&S), which shuts the engine off when the vehicle comes to a complete stop, and restarts when the driver lifts his foot off the brake.

The 2017 Highlander gas models will feature an additional Direct Shift 8-speed automatic transmission engine, which will be paired with the 3.5-liter V6 direct injection engine. This signifies that there will now be three different powertrain options to choose from, viz. the V6 direct injection, V6 coupled with 8-speed automatic transmission, and 2.7-liter 4-cylinder paired with 6-speed automatic transmission.

The brown leather interior will be available on the Limited Platinum grade. All the models will also feature five USB ports.

For all grades, the vehicle will receive a new upper and lower front grille design. Each grade will be distinguished by different grille finishes that will also carry into the headlamp housing. The grille on all LE, LE Plus and XLE grades will receive a silver painted finish, while Limited and Platinum grades will receive a painted chrome finish. A chrome trim garnish will also be added on the rear bumper of Limited and Platinum models.

The 2017 Highlander will come with Toyota Safety Sense P (TSS), which contains pre-collision system (with forward collision warning and automatic emergency brake), lane departure alert, automatic high beams, pedestrian pre-collision system and dynamic radar cruise control.

The new SE model is aimed to provide a touch of sportiness. It features 19-inch aluminum alloy wheels, tuned suspension, and dark paint on the front grille, headlamp housings and roof rails. It also possesses black leather-trimmed seats with silver stitching and pattern seat inserts, a black front tray, and matching dash and door inserts.

The 2017 Highlander Limited Platinum grade will come with a bird’s eye view camera with perimeter scan. This technology involves four cameras (mounted on the front, the side mirrors and rear of the vehicle) to project a panoramic view of the surroundings on the central touch display monitor, and offers assistance when pulling in-and-out of parking spaces.

The vehicle will come in three new color options, including Celestial Silver Metallic, Toasted Walnut Pearl, and Salsa Red Pearl (exclusive for the SE grade).
