Maruti Suzuki looks to pack a punch with the Ignis launch this Diwali

Just when you thought Maruti Suzuki would be basking in the glory of the launch of its first compact SUV, the Vitara Brezza, here comes another missile from its armor, the Maruti Suzuki Ignis.

So what's Ignis? Is it a hatchback, a sedan, a crossover or an SUV? We at MotorFry would call it a micro SUV owing to the fact that it is Maruti Suzuki's first sub 4-meter SUV. Reports suggest that India's largest car maker is busy testing its upcoming micro SUV on Indian roads to gear up for the Diwali launch.

First showcased at the Geneva Motor Show in March last year, under the iM-4 concept and later, introduced to the world as Ignis in the Tokyo Motor Show in November the same year, the vehicle garnered a lot of attention at the Delhi Auto Expo this year owing to its SUV like stance!

Size does matter! Dimensions of the Ignis?

  • Length: 3,700 mm
  • Width: 1,660 mm
  • Height: 1,595 mm
  • Wheelbase: 2,435 mm
  • Ground Clearance: 180 mm

Engine Performance?

The Ignis would be powered by 1.2-liter VTVT petrol engine and a 1.3-liter multi-jet diesel engine. Smart Hybrid Vehicle by Suzuki (SHVS) which is a mild Hybrid system introduced by them, is expected to feature in this micro SUV. The SHVS incorporates an integrated starter generator (ISG), that offers engine power assistance and is capable of achieving power regeneration which eventually boosts the fuel efficiency.

Features on Offer?

The upcoming Ignis would be sold through Nexa Premium dealerships across the country. This is probabaly the best hint with regard to the features it would offer. Sophisticated styling, projector headlamps with DRLs, fog lamps with chrome garnish, ORVM's with turn indicators, rear mounted spoiler, touch screen infotainment system, push button start, ABS with EBD and airbags are some features on the offer.

Now The Talking Point! Pricing of Ignis?

Rumor mills indicate that Ignis would be priced attractively from 4.5 lacs INR onwards. Maruti Suzuki have always been bang on target as far as the pricing goes in the past couple of years, at times even forcing other top OEMs like Ford to drop the prices of their vehicles to stay in the hunt.

Yet another reason to look forward to the festival of lights this year as Ignis promises to bring in joy to many hearts. Who knows, maybe this is Maruti's way of wishing Indians a happy Diwali? Stay tuned to MotorFry for updates!
