Hyundai RN30 concept showcased at 2016 Paris Motor Show

Hyundai RN30 is a high-performance concept vehicle showcased at the Paris Motor Show 2016. It is a motorsport-inspired racing car, made for the track.

Hyundai RN30 front

The RN30 is based on the Hyundai i30 and developed in collaboration with Hyundai Motor Europe Technical Center (HMETC), Hyundai Motor’s Performance Development & High Performance Vehicle Division, and Hyundai Motorsport (HMSG). It is 30 mm wider than the i30, and 84 mm lesser in height.

A 2.0-liter turbocharged engine powers the Hyundai RN30. This is the same which is under development for the N-series cars announced last year. The turbo is further enlarged to increase thrust at full throttle. All this results in a performance of 380 PS (279.5 kW/374.8 hp) along with 451 Nm (333 lb.ft) torque. A wet-type dual-clutch transmission (DCT) makes sure this all-wheel drive responds quickly to gear shifts to provide dynamic acceleration.

Hyundai RN30 rear

The concept car features an aerodynamic design. High-performance plastic materials (instead of commonly used carbon fibre reinforced polymer) are used to reduce weight and lower the centre of gravity. However, the actual weight of the vehicle is not revealed! Floating wheel fenders along with side splitters are used to produce the sensation of downforce.

In the front are the cascading grill and high-tech headlamps. The rear spoiler is large. There is a fin with an attached camera penetrating the spoiler placed along the central line of the roof. All this gives the car a distinctive look. Cameras with image stabilisation capability are set inside the car facing the driver. The two exhaust pipes are made of ceramic and are mounted centrally. The diffuser is placed just above them. The 19-inch wheels are made of light-weight alloy.

Hyundai RN30 side

Hyundai RN30 comes with a host of impressive features. Are you familiar with the exciting sound of the exhaust produced due to rapid acceleration? The Electronic Variable Exhaust system does just that. Then there is rev-matching which revises the speed whenever a gear is shifted in Sports mode. The electronic limited-slip differential system (eLSD) helps prevent skidding, especially on turns and corners.
