The fifth generation of Nissan Micra is unveiled at the ongoing 2016 Paris Motor Show. The car targets the European market, which happens to be the largest market for hatchbacks in the world.
As far as the design is concerned, the Nissan Micra Gen5 features a distinctive V-motion grille. The lights are boomerang-shaped, and the floating roof gives an airy feeling. The C-pillars hide the rear door handles. The combined roof and side spoiler has resulted in a drag coefficient of 0.29, which is a top figure for a hatchback.
The seats and steering wheel are adjustable as per the needs of the driver. Moreover, the pedals and shift lever are optimally positioned to achieve a perfect driving position. Six-speaker Bose sound system is used for the audiophiles. Two of those speakers are built into the driver seat headrest and one each in the front doors. A 7-inch centrally located display is used for navigation and infotainment. Apple CarPlay is supported. In-cabin noise insulation is improved.
There is a choice of engines - 0.9-litre turbocharged three-cylinder petrol engine or a 1.5-litre diesel. Both these variants produce a power of 90 hp (67 kW). Another 1.0-litre petrol engine producing 73 hp (54.5 kW) will be available at a later point in time.
A host of advanced safety features is available across all grades. Few of them are lane departure prevention, intelligent around view monitor, intelligent emergency braking with pedestrian detection, high beam assist, traffic sign recognition and blind spot warning.
The Nissan Micra Gen5 is wider, longer and lower than its predecessors, hence providing more interior space. It comes in ten different colour options. The car will be manufactured at the plant located in Flins, France. Europeans can buy it beginning March next year.
