Video: This is how Jaguar pulled off the E-Pace barrel roll

Jaguar has released a mini documentary explaining the record breaking (or making) jump they did with the E-Pace. For the uninitiated, Jaguar E-Pace was launched earlier this month. It is the smallest SUV from the British brand. The car was revealed to the world with a barrel roll performed by a stunt driver behind the wheel. It was the furthest barrel roll by a production vehicle and entered the Guinness World Records.

The video explains how the jump was the result of extensive preparation. The E-Pace used for the stunt was slightly modified for safety purposes. It was subjected to around thirty-three test cycles over a period of six months before concluding the final approach. During the test, the vehicle took enough beatings time-and-again by landing on its rear end, roof, and sides.

Terry Grant performed the stunt, who was subjected to a force of 5.5G on the jump while having an error margin of just 10 mm (0.4-inch). The total stunt time was 1.5 seconds.

Commenting on the feat, Terry said,
"As far as I am aware no production car has ever cleanly completed a bona-fide barrel roll and therefore it has always been an ambition of mine to perform one ever since I was a boy. After driving the Jaguar F-PACE in the record-breaking loop-the-loop, it has been amazing to help launch the next chapter of the PACE family in an even more dramatic dynamic feat."
