Mitsubishi is all set to launch its next-generation MPV at the upcoming Gaikindo Indonesia International Auto Show to be held in Jakarta next month. Although the name will be officially revealed at the event, reports suggest that it will be termed the Expander.
On first look, the car appears to be a crossover between an SUV and an MPV. What is not surprising at all is that the upcoming vehicle's distinctive face looks similar to that of the eX and GT-PHEV concepts cars debuted by the Japanese brand at the Tokyo Motor Show 2015 and Paris Motor Show 2016 respectively. All the three also have the raised-ride height design.
Both the above concept cars were powered by a plug-in hybrid setup with a range of 400 km (248 mi). On the other hand, the Mitsubishi Expander comes with a four-cylinder petrol engine, coupled with a four-speed automatic or a five-speed manual transmission.
The Expander comes with 205 mm (8-inch) of ground clearance, comfortable sitting in between the Ford Escape (198 mm) and the Toyota Fortuner (220 mm). The dynamic shield grille and the split fog and head lights give the car a curiously bloated look. The sides and the rear are no improvements.
The vehicle is expected to be spacious enough for seven people, including head clearance and luggage.
Mitsubishi Expander will be produced at the new Indonesian factory and made available in the Indonesian market later in fall this year.
